10 September 2019

Inspired by the free-spirited Nomads of the American West this trend harmonises the bold-tribal prints, colours and textures of nomadic style along with modern silhouettes and materials.

Tribal prints are typically associated with Native American heritage; these prints were created by weaving textiles that would take months to complete but the result was truly beautiful. Traditionally these textiles would be used for rugs, wall hangings and even blankets. The most commonly recognisable characteristic of Native American design would be the use of geometric prints; the iconic designs are now used in clothing, furniture design and occasionally architecture.

If you are inspired by this nomadic look then here are some ways to create it for your own home!

Corresponding Colours

Native Art is said to reflect the weaver’s energy and cultural history so designs often reflected on their personal experience and surroundings. This is conveyed in their woven work by utilizing colours within their local landscape such as: orange, red and brown. Using these neutral desert colours in your home is an effective way to represent this arid nomadic style.

Geometric Prints

If you are going to experiment with prints make sure you keep them relevant to the style you are inspired by! For this nomadic look find subtle geometric textiles as these are derivative of authentic Native art.

Layering: how many rugs are too many?

With the skill of weaving comes an abundance of textiles and floor coverings; handmade and natural textiles can be layered to create depth and variation for an overall nomadic chic!  As well as using traditional nomadic woven rugs, adding cowhide and sheep-skin excellently contrast the dense pattern while maintaining a co-ordinated look.

Tribal Trinkets

The finishing touches are vital to portraying this Savanna style. Bison head sculptures add realism and are an edgy addition to any room. The traditional riding boots sculpture slung in the corner as if you’ve just come in off the horse and the odd cacti and succulent set the wild west atmosphere.

This style is very versatile and adaptable so if your home is in need of modernisation and you like this traditional native design why not pop in-store, we have just the products you are looking for!
