We love seeing all our customers’ Gillies purchases in their new homes. So, we were in for a treat when we visited interior designer and long-time Gillies customer Jackie! Her beautiful new build is kitted-out with Gillies goods from top to bottom, from flooring and furniture to cushions and curtains.
When we stepped inside Jackie’s home, the first thing we noticed was how bright and welcoming it was. From the front door, we could see the freshly-laid Newton Stewart Earth carpet on the stairs, and we peeked into the sun-soaked kitchen area, where we spied some enticing pops of colour.
First, Jackie showed us her gorgeous, open-plan kitchen, dining and sunroom. The space features a warm, neutral colour palette with vibrant yellow and blue accents. The grand and contemporary Artistico dining table, paired with eight Kuga chairs, is a striking focal point in the room. Pointing to the pelmets over the windows, Jackie revealed that her favourite parts of the décor (and her highlight of any trip to Gillies) are the soft furnishings.
“You’ve just got a vast amount of fabrics - it’s amazing. Plus the staff are exceptionally good. It’s like home-from-home, I have to say. When I go in they just leave me to look through the books. I love that fabric, the Harlequin one I’ve got here, and cushions obviously the same - always have to have a cushion to match!”
Jackie has found the perfect balance of style and comfort. Her house is expertly curated and immaculately styled, whilst still feeling inviting and homely. From the made-to-measure coordinating curtains and cushions to the carefully selected accessories, everything has come together perfectly, as if it was meant to be!
We asked Jackie her top tip for choosing accessories:
“Lamps! Always go for oversized rather than small, whatever the room. It’s an ornament. That’s the way I describe it to people. I’m not one for lots of little ornaments.”
Next, Jackie took us into the living room. While the kitchen area felt fresh and energising, this room feels cosy and calming. Here is a luxurious space with a grey and purple colour palette and plush textiles. Again, there’s a lovely sense of harmony. Every piece feels like it was made for this room. She’s chosen our sumptuous Bronte sofa with button back details and solid ash legs; a great option for blending style and comfort.
Heading upstairs, Jackie showed us around three chic bedrooms fit for a boutique hotel. We were delighted when she explained that she bought the guest bedroom furniture from Gillies around twenty years ago! Timeless and long-lasting, it looks great in its new home.
After our tour, we sat down with Jackie to chat about her experience with Gillies. She’s been visiting us for over thirty years!
“My experience with Gillies is just amazing. They’re all lovely. From the carpet department to bedding, to the gift department, they’re absolutely super. I couldn’t fault anybody, I have to say. And the girls that phone you and speak to you are just lovely on the phone. It’s like they know me. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. It’s a great shop. I don’t go any further than Gillies.”
Jackie’s home is all at once lively and soothing. It's a wonderful demonstration of the power of furniture and décor. She has carefully considered every room and selected each piece of furniture, flooring and accessory to enhance the space. We’re so pleased we had a hand in shaping her haven.
