January 2020 Trade Shows
Its been a busy month for our buyers – as the new year has arrived, so have new styles, trends and colour palettes. Our buyers begin by scowering trade fairs for the latest and greatest in home furnishings.
Our buyers attend some of the best trade shows in the world to find our customers the most unique, stylish, unusual and innovative products. This process requires travelling all around the globe to do so – this month has seen our furniture buyer and Director Alistair and operations Director David visit Cologne in Germany to attend the IMM furniture show. A highlight from this show would be the KARE exhibition which featured their signature golden gorilla sculpture, only this time it was 10ft tall- although this time around we haven’t purchased one, it does provide an insight to how daring we could be! The KARE exhibition boasts of many bright colours and eclectic furnishings; the room sets designed by this brand are truly eye-catching and artistically inspiring.
This trip was very successful with Director Alistair commenting:
Both the major trade fairs in Germany and Birmingham exhibited some exciting and fashionable new trends – corner groups are making a big comeback, along with chesterfield sofas in a variety of shades and styles. In dining, slightly less lacquered goods were shown with a larger concentration on wood was being displayed – certainly a move away from natural oak was noticeable.
Both Alistair and David then attended the NEC furniture trade show in Birmingham. These back to back shows meant our buyers saw wide variations in furniture and styles and have managed to select new stock from many different suppliers.
The end result, well it’s looking like an exciting 2020 for the Gillies customers as they can expect a brilliant and versatile product offering full of beautiful furniture and accessories. P.S As an extra bonus our buyers managed to purchase the show stock off of some of the displays at heavily discounted prices – this will be making it’s way into our Broughty Ferry store on Friday the 7th February- a lot of which will be half price!
