How do I choose the right lighting for each room?
Start by thinking about how the room is used. Ceiling lights provide overall illumination, making them ideal for living rooms, kitchens and hallways. Floor lamps work well for adding softer, ambient light in corners or beside seating, while table lamps are perfect for bedside tables, desks or creating a cosy atmosphere. Layering different types of lighting helps you achieve both function and mood in any space.
What is the difference between ambient, task and accent lighting?
Ambient lighting is your main source of light, usually from ceiling fixtures. Task lighting is more focused and helps with specific activities like reading or working, often from table or floor lamps. Accent lighting is used to highlight features such as artwork or decorative areas. Combining all three creates a balanced and practical lighting setup.
How do I choose the right size ceiling light for my room?
The size of your ceiling light should be in proportion to your room. Larger spaces benefit from wider or multi-light fittings, while smaller rooms suit more compact designs. As a general guide, the light should feel balanced within the space, not too small that it gets lost, and not so large that it overwhelms the room. If you're unsure, visiting a showroom can help you visualise scale more easily.
Are your lamps compatible with LED bulbs and dimmer switches?
Most modern lighting is designed to work with LED bulbs, which are energy-efficient and long-lasting. Some lights can also be used with dimmer switches, but this depends on the fitting and the bulb used. It’s always best to check product details or speak to our team in store to make sure you choose the right combination for your setup.
Can I see your lighting range in person before buying?
Yes, many of our lighting ranges are available to view in store. Visiting one of our showrooms in Dundee (Broughty Ferry), Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Dingwall or Elgin (Grampian Furnishers) allows you to see the size, finish and light output in person. Our team can also help you choose the right lighting for your space and style.
Can I purchase lighting on your website?
Yes, you can purchase a selection of lighting on our website. Some larger or more fragile items may be listed as ‘enquire only’. This allows you to register your interest, and a member of our team will then contact you to arrange payment and delivery.
