It’s Finally Time To Unveil Our Brand New Bedroom Department…
We are so excited to reveal what we’ve been up to during lockdown 2!
As we closed our doors for the second time in our 125-year history, we tried to be as productive as possible in the time we had until we could welcome you back in-store! Whilst our customers and most of our sales colleagues were at home staying safe, a core team was retained and kept busy completely re-designing the bedroom department in our Broughty Ferry store.
This project involved many different aspects to give this floor a fresh new look and to equal (or better!) the high standard of other refurbishments we’ve recently carried out. To complete this we enlisted Interior Designer Ryan McNeish, who we have collaborated with in all of our stores in recent years, to help create a cohesive lifestyle environment. Ryan was challenged with significant restyling of the shop floor incorporating lifestyle room sets, new customer flow, and a high level on interior design and merchandising for each space.
The first project was a full refit of all the existing flooring, covering over 8,000 sq.ft! We installed a mixture of Karndean wood effect flooring and plush new carpet, to provide versatility and to enhance various styles of design and inspiration for our customers.
Then with the help of our bed buyer David, we re-planned our product offering and decided to focus on a range plan that best represents Gillies and provides the very best products, matched with good value-for-money, for our customers. This involved buying in some new ranges that we are sure you will be impressed by, including the ‘Pearl’ range, as well as an exquisite mattress from Vispring the ‘Shetland Superb’, of which we will be the only stockist in Scotland! We have also created a new layout and display of fashion beds such as ‘Soprano’, and ‘Flute’.
After mapping out the new design and new layout; the decorating starting to come to life, including covering the custom-made new partitions, hanging some trendy wallpaper and giving the walls a fresh lick of paint – over 50 colours! We also had some stunning pendant lights installed, including intricate chandeliers and modern designs; these have really transformed the dynamic of the showroom. Our designer Ryan was then able to come in and dress the room sets, adding the finishing touches and displaying beautiful bed linen, accessories and even some planters, all helping to give you some bedroom inspiration for turning your home into a Gillies home!
Our Marketing Director Ewan Philp was one of the driving forces behind this project during lockdown and was heavily involved in the refurbishment process, from lifting the existing floor to hanging the final pieces of art work:
As a forward thinking company Gillies is always looking to improve and enhance the in-store experience. Prior to lockdown, we pinpointed our Broughty Ferry stores bedroom department as the next areas for improvement. We are delighted to now have the department open, and showcase how we have pushed the boundaries of store design and layout once more. The end result is truly beautiful and inspiring department which we are exceptionally proud of, and hope our customers love it as much as we do
