This cushion’s design is inspired by a woven silk fabric from the V&A collection, created in Varanasi around 1850. The original textile showcases the exceptional artistry of Varanasi weavers, celebrated for their mastery of the drawloom technique, which enabled intricate, finely detailed patterns. Rich jewel tones—such as deep reds, blues, and greens—enhanced its opulence, making it ideal for high-status or ceremonial use. Historically known as Benares, Varanasi has been a centre of fine weaving since ancient times and, during the Mughal era, became one of India’s most celebrated hubs for silk craftsmanship.
